Old Mill in Charlotte, VT

I cannot locate any information on the history of this unusually designed mill. The building perches precariously on rocks above the river, and parts of it are cantilevered out over the water. Also, as the roaring outlet stream in the first two photos shows, the mill race and waterwheel are perpendicular to the river rather than parallel to it, as is usually the case. Apparently, the water that powered this mill ran from the mill pond (shown in the fourth and fifth photos) through a pipe under a road to reach the only possible place the mill could be positioned. Sometimes a lot of ingenuity was required to harness the power of water.
