Not far from the Steamtown yard stands the imposing Lackawanna Station, which was built in 1906 and was said at the time to strike "a new note of architechtural grandeur." Grand it certainly was -- and, in its recently refurbished state, still is.
The last passenger train left the depot on January 5, 1970. and the building was abandoned shortly thereafter. It stood empty and neglected for more than a decade until local investors converted it to a hotel that opened in 1983.
