At the Mercy of the Elements

Steamtown is a wonderful place for a rail fan to visit, but there’s also a distressing aspect to the place: Most of the collection is stored outside in the yard, where time and weather are slowly destroying it. There seems to be no budget for preservation – much less for restoration. This is the legacy of conservative politicians, who have been starving the entire national park system for decades. It’s sad to see these irreplaceable artifacts in such deplorable condition.
