Visits to Steamtown are enhanced by the fact that the DL, a shortline freight railroad, operates trains through and conducts switching operations within the Steamtown yard. Better still, Delaware–Lackawanna is renowned for both rebuilding and operating 50-year-old ALCO diesels up and down the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania on a daily basis. It is the only railroad operating three ALCO RS-3s, and many of the locomotives are still in their original paint schemes.
